As I sit here watching the sunrise on my last day at the beach I'm reminded in the beauty that surrounds us. The brilliant colors in the sunrise, the sound of the waves crashing against the beach shoreline and the peacefulness in the early morning hours remind me to slow down. We all need reminders to sow down and enjoy the little things around us that bring us joy and peace. Although I'd rather be sleeping in I'm so grateful I was able to catch the sun just starting to peek up over the horizon of the ocean this morning. I could sit her and listen to the waves all day!
Yesterday that ocean was rough, so much so that we could barely stand in it without getting knocked down. The kids desperately wanted to to play in the water and ride the waves but it was a bit brutal and unforgiving. It reminded me a bit of how the night before when we went looking or seashells on the beach there were so many millions of broken tiny bits of shells washed up by the ocean water. Broken pieces yet so many still so beautiful and unique pieces. Life is unforgiving at times, much like the ocean but there is still beauty within the small moments of joy we find or create for ourselves. There may have been millions of broken bits but that didn't stop us from searching endlessly for the most beautiful and unique pieces to bring home to continue to enjoy..
Some days, the beautiful moments come much more easily than others. On the days where they don't come so easily we sometimes have to force ourselves to keep pushing through to find that light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. It's in those moments where we seek the tiniest bits of light peeking or shining through the cracks to keep us going and looking forward. It's not always easy to find those bits of light when we are trying to fit everything in or rush here and there to get things done. However, if we don't continue to seek out those moments we'll get bogged down with the things that are not so important to us. So this morning is my reminder to continue to find those things, to make time in my life for things that bring a smile to my face and bring peace to my heart. I'm going to sit here for awhile longer and listen to the waves and try not to think about the long drive back home to reality and soak up the last bit of time I have to enjoy here with family at the beach.
I hope today you also find something that brings you joy and peace to your heart and soul. Don't be afraid to reach out to a friend, take a walk to listen to the peacefulness and sounds around you, or whatever else it may be. Have a great day!
